SR-71A #61-7968 is on display at the Virginia Aviation Museum in Richmond, VA. Assembly of this aircraft started on 12 August 1965 and it first flew on 10 October 1966. This aircraft set the endurance record for the SR-71 flown by Major Thomas B. Estes and Major Dewain C. Vick on 26 April 1971. This 10 hour, 30 minute flight covered over 15,000 miles and received the 1971 Mackay Trophy and 1972 Harmon Trophy. SR-71A #968 was brought to the Virginia Aviation Museum from Edwards AFB, CA in October 1999. It sat in storage for some time with the hopes of being reactivated for Detachment 2, but the program was cancelled in 1998. This aircraft last flew on 12 February 1990 and has 2,279.0 flight hours.
